Being a Licensed Power Pilot

A couple weeks ago I filled out a bunch of forms and got a Transport Canada “Authorized Person” to sign the back of my license. That signature officially gave me my Private Pilot’s License.

The day that happened I switched flying clubs, so I am now flying out of Ottawa Aviation Services, which happens to be next door to the OFC. See my comparison of OAS and OFC.

I would love to say I’ve flown several people around on city tours and cross-countries, but really the weather has been solidly overcast for the last couple weeks. Sometimes it clears up on a Saturday, but I’m in the middle of an 8 hour shift if that happens.

Well, what I can say is that when these autumn clouds move on, I will be flying a few hours until I get rated for the Diamond Katana DA20-A, at which point I have a lengthy list of friends and family I will offer flights. In between those flights I will work on my night rating.

And for those of you who will want to know how many hours it took me, I had 20.3 hours of PIC time and 55.1 hours of dual time. I must say it took me longer than I had planned for sure, but at least I have fewer hours until my commercial license now.
